About One Step Closer: Songs to Recover By

Some of the most disturbing headlines during the pandemic have been about the increase in overdose and addiction due to stress, financial strain, depression, and isolation. All of these factors can be triggers for people recovering from substance use.

Music plays a vital role in helping us understand how we feel and in healing our hearts. "One Step Closer: Songs to Recover By" is a nine-song acoustic album created especially for people in recovery. The songs tell the stories of addiction; from hitting rock bottom to rediscovering yourself and the ongoing journey of healing.

Even though we exceeded our initial fundraising goal,  please continue to donate below and share so we can do even more for those in recovery!

November 2021 Update-

Three donated concerts for those in recovery (Kansas City, Online for Sober Sisters, and Nashville Recovery Center).

600 + albums donated to recovery centers in Florida, North Carolina, California, Arizona, Nevada, Tennessee, and Missouri.

What is a One Step Closer concert like?

* It's a 1 hour concert featuring the songs from the album live, performed acoustically by Shantell and a back up musician. The concert also includes the real-life addition recovery stories that inspired the songs. It is designed to promote reflection and healing through music.

* A sound system can be provided by artist or recovery center; recovery center should have a place to gather residents for a concert and a space in front to set up a stage area.

* Up to 25 albums will be included as part of the concert for residents to take home the songs.

For booking inquires, please contact Shantell.

Questions

How will the donations be used?

The donations will be used for recording and releasing this album; $3,500 is needed to cover costs (there is no profit included). If more than $3,500 is donated for the album, the funds will be used to sponsor additional live performances at addiction recovery treatment centers, gift additional albums to those in recovery, or to create videos using the music for addiction awareness.

Why are you doing this?

I have seen the power of music heal hearts. Through these songs and stories about addiction, we can give addicts a way to hear their inner pain and inspire them to rediscover hope and healing.

While I have never been an addict personally, we have lost several members of our family to addiction and overdose. In addition, many of these songs have been written with other songwriters who have personally battled addiction.

What songs will you record?

There will be at nine songs in total, and a preview is coming soon.

How will I stay updated?
